My painting for Embassy of Ireland Bangkok

Title : “A Family and Hope with Louis le Brocquy”
Size : 110×150 cm.

Media : Oil on canvas

It was an event intention by Mr. Patrick Bourne (H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne), Ambassador of Ireland to Thailand. He would like I to use the work of Ireland’s famous artist, Louis Brocquy (B.1916–2012), to create a work to show the relationship between Thailand and Ireland through art.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Patrick Bourne (H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne), Ambassador of Ireland to Thailand, for giving me the opportunity to create this work.

Concept

Sudrak’s work was inspired by the painting “A Family (Year 1951)” by Louis le Brocquy (B.1916–2012), in which Le Brocquy expresses his mental uneasiness.  On the right, the father expresses his melancholy by sitting with his back to his family in the concrete bunker surroundings. Despite the sadness, this picture conveys a message of hope.  The child is holding a bouquet of brightly colored flowers, which could be seen as a representation of happiness and future hope.  Sudrak brings her imagination, positivity, and cheerful landscape that has become her signature in this painting by visualizing a window that looks out onto a golden meadow and the rising light in the morning.

Furthermore, on the right side of the painting, there is a door that leads to something new, which Sudrak intends to inspire the audience not to give up hope for a new beginning.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Patrick Bourne (H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne), Ambassador of Ireland to Thailand, for giving me the opportunity to create this work.
